Columbus, Ohio (April 19, 2010) – Gov. Ted Strickland heard first-hand about the advantages of career colleges and schools during a visit Wednesday to FORTIS College in Centerville.

College President Dr. Richard Rucker said, “We’re pleased that the Governor took time to tour our college and hear directly from our students and faculty members about the ways that FORTIS is meeting the needs of Dayton-area students and employers.”

Students completing the college’s programs are ready for immediate employment due to the hands-on training experience they receive in their chosen fields.

Even in these challenging economic times, FORTIS places more than 80 percent of its graduates. Rucker attributes the college’s success to ensuring that students are enrolled in programs that suit their aptitudes and a low student-to-teacher ratio.

“We’re very focused on outcomes and student success. Our faculty and staff take a personal interest in helping each student succeed,” he said.

FORTIS College is not unique in high job placement rates, said R. David Rankin, executive director of the Ohio Association of Career Colleges and Schools. The statewide job placement rate of all career colleges and schools was 74 percent in 2009.
